Meet Dennis Parnell

Author. Speaker. Coach. Therapist. Fellow traveler.

Dennis Parnell, LCSW, is a writer, licensed clinical social worker, coach, and business leader whose work explores fear, recovery, spirituality, and the search for a more authentic life.

Drawing on more than forty years of recovery, personal reflection, spiritual searching, and professional insight, Dennis examines how addiction, loss, adversity, and awakening can become catalysts for healing and transformation. His work is rooted in a hard-earned realization: fear is not designed simply to stop us. Properly understood, it can move us toward truth, courage, and change.

Dennis blends memoir, psychology, philosophy, and spiritual inquiry to help people explore the full complexity of the human experience. His whole-person perspective considers the biological, psychological, social, and spiritual forces that shape how we think, feel, relate, recover, and grow.

A Life Informed By
Experience

Dennis does not approach fear and recovery as distant ideas. At thirty-five, the words “My name is Dennis, and I am an alcoholic” ended what he calls his first life. That admission felt like collapse, exposure, and defeat—but it also became the first true thing he had said about himself in a long time

What followed became “The Second Round”: a return to the soul he had drifted away from and a life increasingly shaped by surrender, responsibility, recovery, love, and service. His work is informed by more than four decades as a therapist, counselor, life coach, and advisor, as well as by the courage of the clients who entrusted him with their deepest fears, hopes, and stories.

That perspective informs his writing, therapy, coaching, retreats, and speaking. Dennis creates space for honest questions, deeper awareness, and practical movement toward a life that is more connected, purposeful, and authentic.

FOUNDATIONAL FRAMEWORK

The Whole-Person Perspective

Human transformation cannot be reduced to a single lever. Dennis examines the interconnected forces shaping who you are, how you adapt, and where you find lasting clarity.

Biological Force

Examining somatic baselines, nervous system regulation, circadian cycles, and physical vitality as the tangible foundation for cognitive resilience.

Psychological Depth

Decentering habitual thought loops, confronting internal defenses, and rebuilding subconscious narratives to cultivate genuine emotional agility.

Social Dynamics

Addressing relational boundaries, tribal belonging, leadership culture, and the social context that either stifles or accelerates growth.

Spiritual Grounding

Connecting personal agency to transcendent meaning, core ethical convictions, and the existential clarity required for long-term significance.

THE INNER TRANSITION

Students Of The Obvious

Most exhaustion is not physical weariness—it is the heavy, quiet tax of managing unexamined fear. When we replace defense with genuine inquiry, what once paralyzed us becomes our greatest teacher.

01 : THE WEIGHT OF DEFENSE

Suppressing Fear Consumes The Energy Needed To Live

For decades, many of us operate under the unconscious assumption that strength means never flinching. We tuck our apprehensions behind polished achievements, rationalizations, and hyper-competence.

Yet unacknowledged fear does not vanish; it hardens into rigidity. It dictates what conversations we avoid, what risks we refuse, and how tightly we grip our perceived control. Real freedom begins only when we stop running from the discomfort and finally turn to look it directly in the eye.

02 : THE LIBERATION OF INQUIRY

Curiosity Disarms What Fear Has Built

Curiosity requires zero bravado. It asks a simple, courageous question: What is actually true here, and what is merely an inherited reflex?

By observing our patterns with gentle detachment rather than self-reproach, the monster shrinks back into simple data. Old wounds reveal their lessons, inherited anxieties lose their authority, and you step forward into your life unburdened.

Dennis’s Philosophy

We often spend enormous energy trying to suppress, escape, or conquer fear. Dennis offers another possibility: become curious about it.

Fear can reveal old wounds, mental defenses, inherited beliefs, unmet needs, and the places where we feel disconnected from ourselves, others, or a greater source of meaning. Dennis helps people become “students of the obvious”: noticing the patterns already present, distinguishing truth from the fears that developed without conscious consent, and choosing what will guide the life they are now creating.
